Resolution Honoring Rika Yonemura-Fabian

Adopted: May 6, 2021

Whereas, Rika Yonemura-Fabian has served the Skyline College campus community admirably in myriad areas ranging from instruction, curriculum, campus governance, advocacy, and community engagement;

Whereas, Rika consistently centers student voices in all areas of discussion, ensuring that the needs and words of students impel us to act on their behalf;

Whereas, Rika’s dedication to the health of the Skyline College campus community has been ably demonstrated through such work as the Only Fog @ Skyline Initiative, with its revision to Board Policy 2.27, as well as advocacy mental health support and resources, both of which help Skyline College be the strongest, healthiest community we can be;

Whereas, Rika’s devotion to senate governance has been rivaled only by her dedication to union activism, evidenced by her tireless work towards equity for all faculty, her powerful voice to the community at board meetings, her thoughtful and inclusive outreach, and culminating in her co-founding of the first-ever Anti-Oppression Committee of the union; and

Whereas, Rika’s efforts to uplift voices has been keenly observed in her activism addressing discrimination of all kinds, most notably drawing attention to the needs of the Asian and Asian-American community, LGBTQ+ community, and to those who face gender bias, making our campus community a more inclusive and interconnected place for dialogue, support, and healing;

Resolved, That the Skyline College Academic Senate expresses its gratitude to Rika Yonemura-Fabian for her commitment to our campus community, for always pushing us to be better, and for serving as a model for servant leadership and excellence in collegiality.
