As the Interim President of Skyline College, I am immensely proud to serve an institution that is so fundamentally motivated by a commitment to equity. The work being done at Skyline College leads the way for community colleges across the nation, and over the next year I will strive to ensure that the work of Skyline College’s comprehensive redesign continues to move forward. It’s too important to pause even for a moment.
I want to paraphrase a message from the recently retired President, Dr. Regina Stanback-Stroud. Her message accurately reflects my commitment to diversity, equity, access, and the success of all students.
Transformational opportunities are all around us; every day the campus community makes a very conscious choice to achieve more – to transform ourselves, our points of view, and, the world around us. Looking for transformational opportunities across every aspect of our campus community allows us to act upon them wherever and whenever we can. It is this commitment to forward-looking change that drives us to put students first.
Completing college is one of the most significant steps a person can take to improve their life circumstances. And we believe students should be able to:
- easily apply to college without being confused by the process;
- access the resources they need to succeed; and
- efficiently navigate their pathway to their educational goal
It is up to us to provide the tools to help them to go out into the world and make their mark.
I emphatically believe that “educators and students should never surrender to the status quo”. Skyline College continues to demonstrate that we embrace transformation; and our commitment to work together means we can empower and transform the world around us.
Dr. Jannett Jackson
