The UCC Mission Statement

The Skyline College Undocumented Community Center is committed to increasing engagement and awareness surrounding issues that impact the undocumented community by building leadership skills, promoting social justice, and advocating for access and equity within higher education.

Our goal is to empower the undocumented community by providing a safe space, fostering a support network, and removing barriers. Additionally, we strive to create equitable access to resources in order to support an informed and involved community that is capable of self-advocacy.

Financial Aid for Undocumented Students

Through the California Dream Act (AB540), many undocumented students may be eligible for financial aid, scholarships, or other forms of assistance.

The Skyline College Financial Aid Office is committed to helping all students apply for financial aid. UCC staff can help connect you with a Financial Aid representative who can help you navigate the information around AB540.

Deferred Action for Child Arrivals

Through an executive order enacted by President Obama in 2012, some undocumented youth who came to the U.S. as children may be granted a type of temporary permission to stay in the U.S.

Immigration Legal Clinic

SparkPoint and the UCC host the Immigration Legal Clinic, which aspires to meet the unmet needs for access to legal information by our community. As envisioned, the clinic will help bridge the justice gap by providing access to legal services for under-resourced members of the local community. Since late in Fall 2016, the clinic has seen a noticeable increase in the number of students who come to the Clinic to ask questions about their immigration status and to voice fears of deportation. This investment in our community allows the Clinic to be an integral part of holistic services to students by providing free and confidential legal information on immigration matters, SparkPoint helps students stay safe and on track to meet their educational goals.

As clinic supervisor Maria Segarra stated, “As an immigrant, I know what it feels like to be afraid, to be uncertain, and to worry about what the future holds. I hope that together with the Undocumented Community Center, Sparkpoint, and Skyline College, we can provide a safe and caring place for undocumented students, families, and community members. We are here to serve.”

The clinic is open to students, staff, and the public. Please make an appointment if you would like to visit the clinic. All consultations are virtual, free and confidential. For questions or information, please contact SparkPoint at (650) 738-7035.
