Past Initiatives
Sustainability Blitz and Climate Corps Bay Area
Skyline College partnered with Climate Corps Bay Area (CCBA), a 10-month professional development program for emerging sustainability and climate change protection professionals. CCBA Fellows are enrolled as Skyline College students while placed at various agencies around the Bay Area working on climate resiliency projects in education, government, or private companies.
As part of the CCBA Fellowship requirements, Fellows were matched with a Skyline College faculty member to collaborate on a lesson plan relating to sustainability and climate change science or policy. The Sustainability Blitz offers Fellows the opportunity to teach a course, while providing faculty with a lesson plan that will help them integrate sustainability in their courses.
Student Sustainability Summit
The Student Sustainability Summit offers students the opportunity to lead sustainability projects with the help of grants from the President’s Innovation Fund. Students are invited to participate by submitting a proposal or attending summit days to vote on other student projects. Determined by student vote, the three winning proposals receive monetary grants to support the implementation of their projects on campus.
Facilities and District-Wide Sustainability Initiatives
As a member of the San Mateo Community College District, Skyline College has implemented a number of sustainability initiatives on campus in line with the District’s sustainability efforts.
Skyline College Facilities has also made strides in improving campus-wide sustainability through a number of programs, including water conservation and building improvements. For more information on sustainability within facilities management, please read the Facilities Master Plan .
