MESA is an academic enrichment program which helps educationally underrepresented students excel in math and science and graduate from college with degrees in math based fields.

Founded in 1970, the MESA program serves pre-college, community college, and university students at over 90 sites throughout California. Skyline College's MESA Program is part of the MESA California Community College Programs (MCCP).

MESA Students at Skyline gain access to:

  • Free STEM tutoring: check current schedule
  • Support in finding and applying to internships 
  • STEM Conferences (travel and other expenses paid)
  • Special access to scholarships and support in applying 
  • MESA/STEM Academic Counseling

  • Field trips to industry sites and universities

  • A dedicated MESA Student Study Center
  • Academic Excellence Workshops for STEM classes
  • Assistance in the transfer process
  • Career workshops and advising - help with your personal statement and resume
  • MESA Student Leadership Retreat (held in the spring - number of attendees limited)

Eligibility to join MESA:

  • You are intending to transfer to a 4-year college in a calculus-based science, engineering, technology, or math major:
    • Common majors include Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and all Engineering majors.
  • You are a first-generation college student
  • You are demonstrating financial need by receiving financial aid
  • You have not earned a Bachelor’s degree
