Commencement FAQ
When and how will we receive information about graduation?
If you are eligible to graduate, our marketing team will send an email to your my.smccd.edu email with further instructions.
How many guests will be allowed with the graduate?
There is no guest limit since the ceremony is taking place outdoors. Seating will be first come, first served.
If the Commencement Ceremony is moved indoors, only two guests per graduate will be allowed to come inside due to space capacity. If the venue changes, everyone will be notified via email one week prior to Commencement.
Will there be a livestream?
There will be a live streaming of the ceremony on the Skyline College website so your loved ones can watch you graduate from anywhere in the world. The link will be provided on the Commencement homepage on May 24.
Where can I park?
Parking on campus for Commencement is free. Graduates and guests are encouraged to park in the surrounding lots: Lot L, M, N. Lot P is designated for ADA parking. To drop off graduates, please use the roundabout by Building 2 and Building 4. View the map.
When and where can I buy graduation regalia? What is available?
Student regalia can be purchased at the bookstore or on the bookstore website. Students participating in commencement will need to wear graduation regalia.
What attire is recommended?
We recommend graduates wear layers and nicer attire underneath their cap and gown. We ask that graduates and attendees please wear flat shoes (no high heels) for safety and maintaining the integrity of the field. Please come prepared by wearing layers for weather that may be cool and breezy.
Are animals permitted at Commencement?
Services dogs are allowed at commencement. Prior to Commencement, emotional support animals will need to 1) provide documentation from a medical professional whom we can contact and 2) get clearance from our Educational Access Center (EAC).
Are noisemakers permitted?
No noise makers are permitted at Commencement. This includes blow horns, pots, pans, etc...
Will there be portable toilets on the field for restroom access?
We will provide portable toilets nearby the track field.
Will masking be required if it’s an outdoor event?
Our district follows San Mateo County's Health guidelines. Currently there is no mask requirement for outdoor events.
Will there be food?
There is not a scheduled post-commencement reception.
