The Work Experience Education (WORK) Program at Skyline College offers students the opportunity to

  • Students who are employed or volunteering establish specific job-related learning objectives with their supervisor
  • Throughout the semester, you work on progressing & achieving these goals
  • You may earn a total of 16 Work Experience Education units at Skyline College which can be transferable to the California State Universities (CSU).

WORK 670 Work Experience (1- 6 units)

Students may receive credit for work experience related to their major, field of study, or established career goals. Students must attend an orientation, which is offered in the first three weeks of each semester, then work with an instructor to review and discuss learning objectives and work experience. One unit of credit will be earned for each 48-54 hours of paid or unpaid work per semester, with a maximum of 6 units per semester. Students may repeat Work Experience courses within the SMCCCD for credit up to a maximum of 16 total units.

CRER 116 Deciding on a Major (0.5 units)

Designed to assist students who are undecided about their major to discover and explore major options and educational pathways. Students learn major and academic research strategies to guide their college major decision. Students also learn about the decision making process. The connections between college majors and careers will be explored.

CRER 137 Life and Career Planning (3 units)

Provides a comprehensive approach to life and career planning. Students are guided through the career development process, which includes the steps of discovery, exploration, informed decision making and planning. The social, cultural and psychological factors that influence a student's major and career decision are explored.

CRER 665 Selected Topics in Career and Personal Development (0.5- 2 units)

Discussion and exploration of various career-related topics and their application to a student's major, career development, and career exploration.
