Enroll in a Real Estate course at Skyline College to gain an introductory understanding of real estate practice and the practical application of real estate skills in the field and office environments. Students can expect to learn about mortgage loan brokering, energy efficiency, lending, and other selected real estate topics.

Students will prepare for the California Real Estate Exam by studying real and personal property, tax implications, appraisal, financing, transfer of property, contracts, and broker responsibility.

R.E. 100 Real Estate Principles (3 units)

Introduces the legal concepts of property ownership, contracts, agency, financing, liens and encumbrances, taxes, escrows, land description, and additional Real Estate topics as they apply to realty in California. (This is the usual first course in Real Estate. This introductory course is mandatory for meeting the California State licensing requirements for admission to the salesperson license exam.)

R.E. 110 Real Estate Practice (3 units)

Real Estate sales practices in California emphasizing the daily activities of agents and brokers, some of their key legal responsibilities, professional ethics, and how real estate sales agents achieve their greatest success. Meets the State requirement as one of three courses for the real estate salesperson's license. (This is a required course for the license examination). Also accepted for credit for the broker's license examination.

R.E. 130 California Mortgage Loan Brokering & Lending (3 units)

Focusing on the entire mortgage loan process from loan origination to underwriting, finishing with funding and servicing. The course also covers the marketing of oneself when entering the profession of mortgage loan brokering and lending. Additional topics covered include legal aspects of the business and various forms used within the profession.

R.E. 131 Real Estate Finance I (3 units)

Law, regulations, practices, and customs relating to the financing of real estate, with emphasis on the financing private residences in California. Real Estate Finance in its context including some key legal, financial, monetary, industry, regulatory, and historical considerations. (This course has been accepted by the California Bureau of Real Estate for credit towards the sales agent and broker licenses. This is one of two additional courses needed for licensing).

R.E. 665 Selected Real Estate Topics (0.5- 1.5 units)

Courses will focus on, explore or introduce selected topics in real estate. Examples include topics such as changes in real estate law and contemporary real estate themes.

Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of California real estate laws and regulations in order to effectively perform the duties associated with a real estate salesperson position.
  • Describe the various ways of acquiring title of real property and interpret the laws governing contracts in general, including agency.
  • Evaluate various types of ownership and financing techniques common to residential real estate.

R.E. 110 REAL ESTATE PRACTICE (3)

Real Estate Practice is the practical application of real estate skills in the field and office environments. This course presents the skills, knowledge and abilities needed to work with buyers, sellers, lessors and lessees to ensure success as a realtor. Completion of both R.E. 100 and R.E. 110 enables students to satisfy California state requirements for licensing. Transfer credit: CSU.
