Jiselle Pantig-Velasco
Major: Allied Science (Pre-Dental) About MeMy name is Jiselle Pantig-Velasco and I am a UCSB alumni with a degree in Political Science who loves to dance and sing. A little bit about me is that I love petting stranger’s dogs, listening to Lana Del Rey, exploring art museums, and painting. At the end of a day, you can most likely catch me running a 5k at the gym, watching video essays, reading fiction books, crocheting, but predictably rewatching Modern Family or Community. When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known:I wish I knew to start utilizing resources earlier. More importantly there is always
something fun going on campus whether it’s tabling in building six, club events, or
musicals. People are here to uplift you as long as you are willing to achieve your
optimum level of success. 3 words to describe me:

MeMe Hlaing Oo
Major: Biology and Sociology About MeI am a Burmese international student double-majoring in Biology and Sociology. I moved
to the United States from Burma in 2022; just like many other Burmese students, I
was forced out of home due to the 2021 military coup. I chose Skyline College due
to its location in the SF Bay Area and the significant Burmese student population.
I plan to transfer out of Skyline next year to a 4-year college. I am very excited
for my third and final year here at Skyline. When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known:I wish I had realized the importance of joining a student organization and reaching out to campus resources. For my first year, I was mostly homesick and isolated myself from the community. Building new relationships and connections in this new place took some time but it was 100% worth it.3 words to describe me:
My strengths:
What I enjoy outside of academics:Outside of academics, I read a lot of nonfiction and poetry. I encourage myself to write what I feel; I usually do this in Burmese and keep it a secret! I also enjoy cooking and working with student organizations such as SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance) and MSU (Myanmar Student Union).
