Academic Senate Resolutions and Frameworks
Skyline College Academic Senate Resolution Honoring Dr. Sarah Perkins
Adopted by acclamation: May 19, 2016
Whereas, Sarah Perkins took the position of Vice President of Instruction in
2012 at a time when Skyline College was grappling with immense challenges including accreditation, responses to the Student Success Task Force Recommendations, becom- ing a community-supported district, issues surrounding repeatability, and insufficient professional development; and
Whereas, Sarah Perkins not only did not falter in the face of those challenges, but led with integrity and commitment, serving as a model for all who worked with her; and
Whereas, Sarah Perkins refused to let grass grow under her feet and continued to take on new and ever-expanding challenges solely for the betterment of Skyline
College, including but not limited to:
- the creation of the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning
- streamlining funding for professional development and expanding it for all campus members
- spearheading a General Education committee charged with refining Skyline College’s curriculum responsibilities
- Support of non-traditional educational programs such as Middle Col- lege, Foster Youth engagement, and the Center for Innovative Practices through Hip-Hop Education and Research (CIPHER)
- Creation of Faculty Boot-Up camps, resulting in more focused onboard- ing of new faculty
- Reenergizing of Study Abroad and subsequent growth of that program
- Leadership in the creation of Skyline College’s first baccalaureate degree; and
Whereas, The Academic Senate has continually relied on Sarah Perkins for
advice, clarification, and counsel as the college has transformed over the years, input which she has always gladly given; and
Whereas, The relationships that Sarah Perkins has created and the tone that she has contributed to setting have helped to make for a culture of truly responsive and
respectful leadership that involves faculty at a meaningful level;
Resolved, That the Skyline College Academic Senate humbly thank Sarah Perkins for her steadfast dedication, respect, and collegiality, qualities which shall be sorely missed and which shall serve as bold criteria for her replacement; and
Resolved, That the Skyline College Academic Senate express its best and most heartfelt wishes to Sarah Perkins for her well-deserved retirement from a college that is truly better for having had her in its leadership.
