Puente at Skyline College
Participants in the Puente Project make a one-year commitment to a linked English and Counseling class with overlapping themes, discussions, and assignments centered around Latino literature and experiences in a collaborative teamwork atmosphere.
Students are required to enroll in English and Counseling courses concurrently each semester and to participate in off-campus Puente field trips and activities.
The Puente Project is structured in three phases:
PHASE 1
First Semester
- Enroll in Puente ENGL C1000E
- Enroll in Puente COUN 100
- Attend Puente counseling appointments
- Attend Puente Transfer Conference
- Attend Puente college tours, cultural, and community activities
- Participate in Puente’s professional mentoring
PHASE 2
Second Semester
- Enroll in ENGL C1002
- Enroll in Puente Counseling course
- Attend Puente counseling appointments
- Attend Puente college tours, cultural, and community activities
- Participate in Puente’s professional mentoring
PHASE 3
Up Until Transfer
- Stay connected with Puente through attending programming and events
- Attend Puente counseling appointments and receive transfer guidance
- Participate in the Puente/Comunidad club
- Support Puente programming as a role model and leader on campus
