Participants in the Puente Project make a one-year commitment to a linked English and Counseling class with overlapping themes, discussions, and assignments centered around Latino literature and experiences in a collaborative teamwork atmosphere.

Students are required to enroll in English and Counseling courses concurrently each semester and to participate in off-campus Puente field trips and activities.

The Puente Project is structured in three phases:

PHASE 1
First Semester

  • Enroll in Puente ENGL C1000E
  • Enroll in Puente COUN 100
  • Attend Puente counseling appointments
  • Attend Puente Transfer Conference
  • Attend Puente college tours, cultural, and community activities
  • Participate in Puente’s professional mentoring

PHASE 2
Second Semester

  • Enroll in ENGL C1002
  • Enroll in Puente Counseling course
  • Attend Puente counseling appointments
  • Attend Puente college tours, cultural, and community activities
  • Participate in Puente’s professional mentoring

PHASE 3
Up Until Transfer

  • Stay connected with Puente through attending programming and events
  • Attend Puente counseling appointments and receive transfer guidance
  • Participate in the Puente/Comunidad club
  • Support Puente programming as a role model and leader on campus
