MATH 212 offers a different approach to preparing for Calculus. Through hands-on activities and real-world applications, you'll explore the big ideas behind calculus while building the confidence and problem-solving skills you’ll need for Calculus I.

MATH 212 offers:

  • A one-semester, 4-unit alternative to the traditional Precalculus or Path to Calculus pathway
  • An exploration of Calculus through real-world applications and technology
  • Fulfillment of Cal-GETC Area 2
  • Counts toward the Data Science Certificate of Achievement (but is open to all majors)

Why take MATH 212?

  • It's a brand-new, one-semester alternative to the traditional Precalculus or Path to Calculus sequence. We've even nicknamed it the "Calcu-LESS Calculus"!

  • Get a different approach to preparing for Calculus I by emphasizing conceptual understanding, mathematical modeling, technology, and real-world applications.

  • Through hands-on activities and applications, you'll explore the big ideas behind calculus while building the confidence and problem-solving skills you’ll need for Calculus I.

  • MATH 212 is designed for students planning to take Math 251/C2210: Calculus I, especially those majoring in biology, engineering, computer science, data science, and other STEM fields
