American Association of University Women North Peninsula Branch Award 

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Northern Peninsula is proudly offering 3 scholarships to women, who are pursuing a career in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). This scholarship opportunity is open to women who are returning to college, changing careers and/or transferring to a four-year institution. Eligible students must also demonstrate financial need, be a STEAM major and have a 3.0 GPA.One (1) scholarship will be awarded to a woman who is transferring to a four-year college or university. Two (2) scholarships will be awarded to women, who are attending Skyline College and plan to continue their education in a certificate program. Briana Scholarship Fund 

The Barthold Family Foundation (Donors) recognize that youth who have aged out of the foster care system face additional hardships and challenges in life. Often these challenges can have an adverse impact on their personal, educational, and professional goals. The Briana Scholarship shall be awarded annually in partnership with the District’s Promise Scholars Program which provides students with a financial award as well as counseling, support groups and many other benefits to assist students to complete their degrees in two years or to earn enough credit to transfer to a 4-year institution of higher learning. The Briana Scholarship will be intended to specifically give preference to first time college students who have aged out of the foster care system. The funds are to be used as supplement to the Promise Scholars Program and will assist with everyday living expenses such as food, housing, transportation, daycare, etc. This scholarship is for one student who is full time, continuing, new or graduating high school senior and actively participates in Project Change Learning Community. This scholarship is available to Cañada, CSM and Skyline College on a rotating basis.

The Carolyn Livengood Journalism Scholarship honors the life of Carolyn Livengood, fondly remembered as the “mother of Skyline College,” and a passionate community member, determined journalist and fierce advocate for the school she so loved. Crestmoor Neighborhood Memorial Scholarship 

The San Bruno Community Foundation created the Crestmoor Neighborhood Memorial Scholarship in honor of the community members who most directly endured the destruction and resulting fire from the 2010 explosion, especially the eight San Bruno residents who lost their lives in the disaster. With the Scholarship Program, the Foundation creates a living tribute to the Crestmoor neighborhood through an investment in San Bruno’s next generation of leaders. The Scholarship Program will ensure that the tragedy of September 9, 2010, is not forgotten and that the resiliency, teamwork, leadership, and commitment to the community displayed throughout San Bruno in the aftermath of the explosion and fire will be honored in the annual recipients of the Scholarship.

CSEA Chapter 33 Scholarship Fund 

This scholarship is sponsored by CSEA (California School Employees Association), Chapter 33 (SMCCD), comprised of classified staff who support and assist students during their pursuit of higher education at our colleges. The scholarship is for a student who has demonstrated strong leadership skills on their campus, i.e. student government, clubs, student worker, tutoring, or mentoring.

Dale Mersereau was a self-taught Southern California real estate developer with an interest in supporting higher education. Helen Mersereau taught school in the Los Angeles area for forty years. Eleanore D. Nettle Scholarship 

Eleanore D. Nettle was a student at San Mateo Junior College, graduating in 1933.  She was elected in 1956 to the SMCCCD Board of Trustees and served until 1989, including nine times as Board president.  Mrs. Nettle was instrumental in the building of CSM’s College Heights Campus, participating in the groundbreaking ceremony in October 1960, and in the expansion of the college district to include the establishment of Cañada College in 1968 and Skyline College in 1969.  The scholarship recipient must demonstrate an avowed interest in education with an intent to enter the teaching profession; the student must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.  The scholarship rotates among Cañada, CSM, and Skyline.

The Osher Scholarships have been made possible by a generous commitment from the Bernard Osher Foundation, which donated $25 million to the Foundation for California Community Colleges to establish an endowment to provide permanent scholarship support to California Community College students. This scholarship is named in memory of Ruth Harer, the mother of Skyline English instructor, Katharine Harer.  Ruth Harer worked all her life in offices and never had the opportunity to attend college. The scholarship is for a student who is a working mother and currently attends Skyline College.

The SMCCCD bookstores are sponsoring three scholarships, one each for Cañada College, College of San Mateo and Skyline College students.  These scholarships are vouchers to be used at the bookstores for supplies and books.  Students may be full or part-time; have a minimum 2.75 grade point average; and demonstrate financial need. Students who currently work at the bookstores have preference.

The University Pathway Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide scholarship support to those students showing financial need and who indicate that they are planning to transfer to a 4-year institution following their time at Cañada College, College of San Mateo or Skyline College. The students educational plan shall reflect that they are planning to transfer to a 4-year university. These funds will support three students a year for up to three years during their time at Cañada College or College of San Mateo or Skyline College upon meeting the indicated criteria.

San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation

San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation raises funds to support student scholarships and programs at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. Our donors come from all across our community — individuals, big and small businesses, civic groups, and community organizations. The joy, success, and promise you see in our students is the difference that our donors are making in our community. 

This year’s donor-funded scholarships will provide these students with the financial freedom to succeed in college, finish their degrees, and start their careers or transfer to four-year institutions.
