On Friday, January 31, 2014, the TRiO program kicked off the semester with a fond farewell to our Math Coordinator, John E. Chavez. John had been with us for 35 years and all of those years as the Learning Center and TRiO Math Coordinator. It’s rare for any professional to have one single job for their full professional career, but John enjoyed every minute of it working with, empowering, and teaching students math principles pursuing graduation and transfer.
Managers, faculty, staff, and students all shared their experiences throughout the years working with John. It was clear that John helped build an academically strong TRiO program, positively impacted students, and added to the “Students First” philosophy at Skyline College.
We would like to thank John for all the wonderful years of service and the positive change he has made in our students’ lives and in the TRiO program. John Chavez has enabled our TRiO students to be the change they want to see in the world.
