One of Skyline College’s own President’s Council members was recognized Wednesday for her service to the city of San Bruno and the surrounding community. Carolyn Livengood, the unofficial “Mother of Skyline College” and long-time member of the President’s Council, was presented with the Mayor’s Award at the annual San Bruno Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner.
“[Carolyn] is one of San Bruno’s longest serving, most diligent and dedicated citizen volunteers who for over 5 decades has continuously and generously devoted personal time, energy and spirit to strengthen the quality of life in our community and of the entire San Mateo County region,” said Michael Salazar, reading remarks prepared by Mayor Jim Ruane.
Carolyn has been a particular champion of Skyline College. In 1964, she was North County Chair of the first bond campaign to build the College and she is a proud member of Skyline College’s 1971 first graduating class. She has pushed for the passage of every major college-related bond campaign since through her weekly column in the San Mateo Times. Additionally, she has dedicated 22 years to service on the County Committee on School District Organization and she is a Board Member of San Mateo Jobs for Youth.
Carolyn also served 25 years in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and remains active as President of the Avenue of Flags at Golden Gate National Cemetery and an ardent participant and advocate in Veterans’ organizations.
