The American Museum of Ceramic Art, AMOCA, located in Pomona California, is preparing to host their biannual ceramic art exhibition. It is called kilnopening.edu, and it focuses on the artwork of ceramics professors and their students. In past years the exhibition was limited to Southern California colleges and universities, but this year invitations were extended to several Northern California professors. Tiffany Schmierer, Associate Professor of Art at Skyline College, was invited to exhibit her work and was also asked to choose two of her students to compete for spots in the juried student category. She selected Ceramics III students Pauline Maccay and Andriaj Cirkelis to apply. The museum’s Associate Curator, Rody Lopez, selected both students’ sculptures for the show. Pauline’s piece, called Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing, is a playful twist on a familiar fable. Andriaj’s figurative sculpture Angel is a seated winged guardian, painted in soft floral colors. All their work will be on display at the Museum from April 12, 2014 to June 1, 2014. More information about the exhibit can be found at Amoca.org.
