This inaugural effort follows the SamTrans Board’s adoption of the Youth Mobility Plan, which seeks to implement programs that improve mobility for students in San Mateo County.

“By extending this offer of free bus service to our county’s community college students we can learn how to adapt and improve our service to better meet their transportation needs,” said Jim Hartnett, SamTrans General Manager. “Commuting to and from school should be simple, efficient and cost effective. We want SamTrans to be that option for all community college students in San Mateo County.”
This initiative, in partnership with the San Mateo County Community College District, will allow SamTrans to better understand the travel trends of community college students in the SamTrans service area. These findings will be used to analyze and adapt service to community college campuses as part of the Reimagine SamTrans project.

“For many of our students transportation is a barrier to pursuing and continuing their college education,” said Ron Galatolo, Chancellor of the San Mateo County Community College District. “Through this partnership with SamTrans, we are removing the transportation barrier for some of our most vulnerable students and providing them with a positive start of the new academic year.”

Today, community colleges in San Mateo County are accessible by the following SamTrans routes:

Cañada College – 274278 (Saturdays)
College of San Mateo – 250260294
Skyline College – 49, 121140
