Finding Research Articles
in Early Childhood Education

Magazine & Journal Databases (to access articles):

Ebscohost databases (on campus)
Ebscohost databases (off campus): an excellent set of databases for most research topics that are available from off-campus--as long as you have a library card.
  • For researching a research topic, click on General Reference - Magazines and Newspapers, then select the Academic Search Elite database.
  • To narrow searches, use the "Advanced Search" mode (available by clicking on "Advanced Search" on the green bar near the top of each EBSCO page) to combine concepts with AND. Once you find one article specifically on your topic, click on any relevant subject headings (near the topic of the article page) to find more articles on that topic.
  • To find research studies, type search words for your topic and add: AND study
    Look for articles in
scholarly journals that include the following sections:
    • Method(s): may include "Procedure", "Participants", "Measures"
    • Results
    • Discussion
    • Data (usually included in statistical tables at the end of the article)

Check the "Full Text" box on the search screen to limit the search to only articles that contain the full text in the database.
