Magazine & Journal Databases (to access articles):

InfoTrac OneFile Database
on campus or off-campus w/ library card (PLS library card bar code number is required). 

• To search only for articles that include the full text (the whole article) in the database, check the "articles with text" box under "Limit the current search" (below the text entry box)
• To narrow searches, combine concepts with AND.
• Once you find one article specifically on your topic, click on any relevant subject headings (near the bottom of the article page) to find more articles on that topic.

  Ethnic Newswatch - on-campus OR off campus w/ library card
  Full-text articles from about 200 newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press, in English and Spanish.: Full-text articles from about 200 newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press, in English and Spanish. Enter key words for your search topic in the "Words in Articles" box on the Search screen and click on the "Submit Search" button.

• SIRS Knowledge Source - on-campus OR off campus w/ library card:
  a database of all full-text articles on social issues from a wide range of magazines and newspapers.
  

Books:

The PLS Online Catalog is the online catalog to find books in Skyline Library and in all libraries in the Peninsula Library Sytem.

• Type in: capital punishment in the search box and click the Search button.
• Limit your search to books at Skyline by clicking on the Limit button at the right side of the page and then scroll down to near the bottom and click on Skyline College Library and then click OK.

The Death Penalty
This site includes pro and con viewpoints, stages of a capital case, history, and how each method of execution is carried out. Interactive U.S. maps in State by State Data show executions and death row inmates by ethnicity, gender, or juveniles; legislation about the mentally retarded, juveniles, and life without parole; and methods of execution used. Included are State Summaries with facts and history, and a table of comparisons. Courtroom Cases presents various issues for jury selection and four actual cases. There is also a Teacher's Guide.

Facts about the death penalty, including executions by year, by state, by method used; botched executions; list of individuals executed (1976-1998). Full-text reports on a variety of topics relating to capital punishment, including race and the death penalty, politicizing the death penalty, crisis in death penalty representation, law enforcement views, innocence and the death penalty, and cost of capital punishment.) Most information on the site is against the death penalty.

Includes information on current executions in the United States, death penalty related news, statistics on executions by state, statistical summaries, and more. The site is against the death penalty and provides information on contacting U.S. law makers and on actions regarding the death penalty. Up-dated every two weeks.
