General Info on Criminal Justice Topics:

California Office of the Attorney General: Information on crime and criminals in the state, including statistics on crime; publications and handbooks covering women's rights, hate crimes, youth violence, crime victims; a special section on Megan's Law, with the details on how to find out about sex offenders in your community; and much more.

Criminal Justice Links: Links to many Internet resources. Includes: juveniles, drugs, prisons, police, courts, censorship. and crime prevention. From Florida State University.

Crime Coverage Links: Nicely annotated links to online sites that cover various aspects of crime, from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics to the Office for Victims of Crime to the UN Crime and Justice Information Network. A print bibliography is also available. From the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.

Copseek.com: Searchable subject index of law enforcement links. Use the "Directory of Law Enforcement Related Sites" on the front of the page.

Corrections Connection: Site for corrections and criminal justice professionals and others looking for information in this field. Links to official Federal, State, County, Community, and International corrections pages; Bulletin Board where questions on topics like community outreach, inmate education, legal issues, legislation, and health care are posted; Juvenile Information Network; Technology Network; American Correctional Association; American Jail Association, and much more. In addition, there's an inmate locator page with federal and state phone numbers and links to inmate databases for a dozen states as well as a facilities locator page which links to the corrections departments for each state.

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Freedom Network: This site gives a brief overview of the ACLU and presents information on current ACLU activities in the news, Congress, the courts, and the states. They also provide specific information on issues they cover, including: criminal justice; cyber-liberties; death penalty; drug policy; free speech; HIV / AIDS; immigration; lesbian & gay rights; national security; police practices; prisons, privacy; racial equality; religious liberty; reproductive rights; students rights; voting rights; women's rights; and workplace rights. Each issue includes highlights from recent ACLU actions, related legislation facing Congress, ACLU publications, and links to other resources.

Statistics:

California Criminal Justice Statistics Center: An excellent source for statistics about crime and the criminal justice system in California. The more than 3,400 tables include statistics on homicide, burglary, domestic violence, delinquency, hate, and driving under the influence (DUI). In addition there is information on arrests; arrest dispositions; corrections populations; and criminal justice personnel and expenditures. Statistics are available statewide and by county, with the Crime Index also broken down by city. This searchable site also includes a good, annotated and categorized, collection of links to other criminal statistics sources. From the California Department of Justice.

U.S. Crime Statistics - Bureau of Justice Statistics: Data on the U.S. murder rate, drug use, crime rates and reports on such subjects as violence against women, capital punishment, drugs and crime, guns used in crimes and prison populations.

Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics: Presents 654 data tables, in Adobe Acrobat format, from more than 100 sources. Includes characteristics of the criminal justice system, public attitudes toward crime and criminal justice topics, nature and distribution of known offenses, characteristics and distribution of persons arrested, judicial processing of defendants and persons under correctional supervision. Searchable.

General Statistical Resources on the Web: Comprehensive, annotated directory of the best resources for statistics on the Web. The place to start when you want to find a good source for statistics on most topics.

Laws and Legal Documents:

FindLaw: Internet Legal Resources: The best single starting point on the Web for doing legal research. Full text searchable database of all law reviews and journals on the Internet. Updated nightly. Another search interface, LawCrawler, helps you focus your search on legal issues on the Web. Also includes Legal News, legal forms, organizations, law firms and lawyers, judicial opinions and case law, consultants, and more.

Internet Law Library: Contains links to over 7,500 law related resources in subjects such as U.S. federal laws, state and territorial laws, international laws, laws of all jurisdictions arranged by subject, attorney and legal professional directories, law school library catalogs and directories, and reviews of law books. The current U.S. Code and Code of Federal Regulations can also be searched from the home page.

Government Documents:

U.S. Government Documents Ready Reference Collection: A Web site of frequently used government titles at Columbia University Library with their equivalent Web links. While this is not a comprehensive government publications listing, it is never-the-less, a handy directory to popular government reports on topics such as business, crime, education, energy, environment, health, and transportation.

Frequently Used Sites Related to U.S. Federal Government Information: This is a directory of links to popular government documents on the Internet. The links are organized by topics including major government indexes, business, crime, census, congress, consumer information, copyright, education, foreign countries, health, impeachment, natural resources, law, scientific reports, and tax forms.
