Description

Hermanos was founded in 2006 by a group of faculty and staff from Skyline College who saw the need to support Latino youth in our community. Over the years, the program has supported hundreds of Latino youth graduate from South San Francisco high school. We work with South San Francisco High School counselors to identify students who are behind on high school graduation requirements. Students who participate in the program concurrently enroll at Skyline College, and take two college courses during their senior year. In 2009, the program expanded to create a cohort for Latina youth. Then in 2017, the Herman@s program has expanded once more to establish a pipeline expanding from middle school to college with the purpose of providing holistic support for Latino youth. Throughout the year we hold workshops for families, take the students to university visits, and student conferences. Students attend their Herman@s class from 3:10PM-4:30PM on Mondays and Wednesdays. The goal of our fundraiser is to continue to provide support for our students. The funds will go toward student scholarships, university visits, materials for our events, and food for families during workshops.
